Here’s the thing. We still don’t know if Lanque is or isn’t in a position of mother/fatherhood. For all we know he still does the exact same things. It’s day one of this troll and we know that: It’s a guy and it’s a jadeblood.

i’m not sure what you mean. jadebloods as a caste have one job on alternia: handling the breeding duties. that doesnt mean theyre literally moms or dads, it just means theyre all going to either work in the brooding caverns or face consequences for not doing so, like say…the dolorosa did.

the fact that some people were criticizing lanque for being an implicit statement on how that systemic structure can be fucked up is what i’m talking about. i’m not really sure how lanques personal feelings come into it.

tbf the vast, vast majority of the response i’ve seen has been super positive, its really just been a handful of people (in my experience, and i dont look at tags).

the honest truth is that im just already having a bad day and people unfairly maligning homestuck or hiveswap makes me hulk the fuck out :V im a dweeb

anyway homestuck is good and hiveswap is stellar

criticism is not inherently good or true by virtue of being criticism. being jaded, mean and tired is not the same as being kind, progressive or right. exercise critical thinking. take the time to question and consider accusatory and cynical narratives.

ESPECIALLY do so when they’re targeting the artists and content creators putting themselves out there in the public eye and trying to shift the cultural tide toward the positive, at a time when there are powerful forces pretty much everywhere on the planet that want to take us back to the fucking spanish inquisition days.

Do it for yourself and for all of us, because I guarantee you antis are doing less to help us than to help them. And by giving antis a support platform from which to spew their moral superiority at those content creators, a lot of fandom is doing the same.

i HAVE to say something because this specific thing im seeing about lanque is driving me up the wall, simply because it makes it rly clear some of you just have no fucking clue what homestuck is about actually? like at all.

and thats this idea that lanque is bad because jadebloods are associated with motherhood, and subverting or complicating that thematic association is bad.

which…just… did these people just like, forget porrim? what happened to caring about the nuances and complexities of girls’ arcs lmao.

 like yeah Porrim personally finds a middle ground she’s comfortable with, but the fact that her society coerced her into a role of motherhood and caregiving is still something she struggled with and its still! fucked! up! There is a larger point being made here!

Jadebloods’ motherhood themes arent about a tribe of Happy Mom Girls who all happen to be biologically born into a role they all love because jade bloods are just Like That.

Jadebloods have motherhood themes because Alternia is a dystopian LITERALLY GOD-DAMNED HELLSCAPE that forces trolls into extremely specific + isolating jobs based on their biology, no matter what they want.

As a caste, Jadebloods DO NOT have a choice, and odds are good most of them arent super fulfilled or happy doing the whole selfless mother of the fascist empire thing. 

I’ll leave it to women/afab nonbinary folks/TRANS DUDES who have actually dealt with similar pressures right here on planet Earth to talk about how glorifying that dynamic is fucked up.

I just want it to be clear to anyone confused by these hot takes that this criticism isn’t even rooted in an accurate reading of Homestuck and Hiveswap’s actual canon, let alone any semblance of reality.

It frankly boggles my mind. How the hell is this a reading! Homestuck spends literally all of its time tearing biological essentialism the fuck down, whyyy why WHY would anyone expect anything different here.

Take it as a warning about falling too far down your echo-chambery fandom-slash-sjw “activist” rabbit hole. All of this nonsense is grounded in readings so far removed from the comic they may as well be writing their own story.

Right like what could possibly be less relatable to trans boys, especially femme trans boys, than a character who was brought up with reproductive and societal expectations enshrining the purity of femininity and struggling with how their inherent gender didn’t match that and then carving out a place in that culture for them to both keep that love of the feminine with them and move forward into personal truth and freedom from dysphoria
