since I’ve seen concern over the subject of renewed fantroll discourse in the likely event of a homestuck resurgence once hiveswap is out, here’s a quick fantroll guide for new fans:
- people can do literally whatever they want with their fantroll/trollsona. these are primarily for fun (especially for the younger fans!) and do not need to be graded for accuracy
- if someone didn’t ask for criticisms of their fantroll/trollsona, and you give it to them anyway in hopes they’ll change their character to fit your standards (even if you say “but this is what’s canon!”), you’re kind of being a jerk. if they tell you to stop and you keep harping on it anyway, you’re definitely being a jerk! no one is under any obligation to be accurate to canon
- if someone asks for advice on how to make their character fit canon better, go for it! but they don’t have to take it, and keep in mind that there’s a lot of canon up for debate (ex. things like god tier classes can have many interpretations!)
- if you want to make a character with candy red or lime blood go for it. if you want to make a character with rainbow or sparkly pink blood go for it. if you want to make “rare” things like mutants, fuchsia bloods/royalty, or lords/muses, go for it. if you want to adopt popular fanon like grub scars go for it. if you have more obscure/original ideas, that’s cool too. go ahead and make furry trolls with tails and paw pads if that appeals to you, literally nothing should stop you!
- take a look at what other fans are doing, and keep an open mind. you can always find something to inspire you, and maybe make friends too
- most importantly, have fun and let others have fun!

I don’t think hiveswap is going to have god tiers. They only happen in sburb and I don’t think it’s going to be in hiveswap
i know but im sure there will be references to their classpect just for fun. in joeys room, theres a light symbol on the cieling making a lot of people think she would be a light player had she played sburb.
theres a couple other references to a Light motif with joey. Her shirt obvs, the flashlight, and the Lite-Brite in that one room that gives her a command to “Lite it”. I think odds are p good its a consistent thing.
ditto a good amount of Doom motifs circling Jude, though we know less there.
Taz I was thinking that while you are right to point out the butlering stuff that Xefros has I feel that it is misguided to presume it is an actual interest of his. As far as we understand that could be what he is being groomed to be rather than an actual interest. In addition, the first song we heard by The Grubbles seems a pointed opposition to it. Just my two cents here dude.
I agree that’s the likeliest scenario! It’s why I felt it necessary to explain how Roleplay works.
It’s possible Xefros’ interest in butlering is something he can develop healthily, and if so I’d expect the game to treat him as a Knight or Page in some way. As in, those would actually just be his class.
But it’s more likely, from what I’ve seen so far, that the butlering motif is something his growth is at odds with. If that’s the case, then while the butler motif may show up to begin with–probably with some links to Knights in particular–I expect he’ll later discard it as he overcomes that struggle and grows as a character.
It’s likely that at that point the game will also be showing us hints as to his true Class/where Xefros’ talents lie strongest.
So it could go either way currently, though I definitely think the second route is likelier.

If you did ask, I never saw it! I think I’ve seen this quote before, come to think of it.
I wouldn’t really use DotA to discard theories because I’m primarily interested in trying to understand the comic as cohesively as possible, and Hussie’s quotes re: mindset with developing it has helped me consider how best to read it many times.
I’d really only say that this particular quote kinda has to be taken in context.
The thing is, Vriska IS definitely a fairy for the entirety of Act 5. It’s coded into the language she’s presented with both textually and visually across the whole deal.
When I say Vriska is a “false fairy”, I don’t mean that she’s incapable of creating a version of herself that plays the role. What I mean is that the roleplaying itself is toxic and unhealthy for her (holding to her Mindfang persona literally kills her, after all), and so it’s ultimately discarded as her character grows.
The question for me is: why was that element so completely dropped later?
And why is the myth of the Fairy so consistently tied to the Maid and Sylph classes–with the exception of cases like Vriska and Tavros, for whom behaving as fairies ends atrociously?
Hussie has always been cagey about telling us exactly what’s going on. So weighed against the evidence in the comic, I’m inclined to think he’s just leaving stuff out here, given that this quote is from Act 5–before we even knew the Dancestors and could put this stuff together.

i’m usually pretty averse to posting quotes from wp staff, but i figure they’ve said inversion theory is fake often enough that it’s more helpful to spread the word than to bite my tongue on it.

Hurricane Irma is currently at category 5 with winds at 185 mph and worsening every three hours or so. It’s destined to hit the islands and absolutely cover Puerto Rico, so one can only imagine the damage it’ll cause to the Islands. Not one bit of Puerto Rico will manage to avoid the rains and winds of this massive, record breaking phenomenon.
It is, quite literally, the biggest hurricane these islands have faced. The largest before was in 1928 and, while also being a category 5 hurricane, had winds literally 20-25 miles slower than this one. Irma seems to only be getting stronger and is sure to bring catastrophic events worse than even Harvey.
So, please, keep us in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️

Inversion theory was a model for how Classpects worked, proposed by one of my primary influences: Bladekindeyewear.
He’s written a lot of posts about it, but his introduction to the subject–as far as I know– is here.
It’s a really cool idea, and for years I thought it was the best way to understand Classpects.
Nowadays I think of Aspect Duality is its own separate concept, and what BKEW explains through Class inversion, I think is more clearly and accurately described as Class Roleplay.
That is, of course, just me. I’m not 100% sure I’m right about the Class roleplay stuff even now, though I expect Hiveswap will make me feel more certain one way or the other.
All I do know is that inversion, as posited here, is extra-canonically debunked. But it’s a good concept to understand to contextualize fandom history. And it’s cool.
happened to see that post so i thought i’d mention–inversion theory was debunked by a what pumpkin employee years ago on reddit. it is explicitly non-canon. i do think its fun though. sorry if this is obnoxious though, its quite possible you know and just like it? I just know theres a lot of people who legit havent heard, since i only found out by coincidence a lil while ago

You’re right though, Word of God is no reason to simply discard a thing peeps have fun with. I don’t really like using inversion theory to try to understand the comic, but I like the concept of it a lot.
