Hey guys! This time we’re starting a short, 5 episode Mini-series on
various parallels between Steven Universe and Revolutionary Girl Utena.
These are two amazing shows and thinking about one has made me
understand the other better several times now, so I hope you all enjoy!
Here we talk about Utena’s basic premise, Ruby and Sapphire, and Pink
Diamond-the Shadow cast over the story.
Let me know what you all think,
and as always,
Keep rising.

Anthy: Retrieve arms from chest
yo, your about seems to suggest that you see Utena Tenjou as a prince of light, and I was wondering if you’ve written about this anywhere? i can’t see her as anything except a hope player (and probably a prince but I’m not sure?) so I’m really curious to know what your reasoning for this was!
Given the relatively recent nuances of roleplaying, I’m not sure my older reading of Utena as a straightfoward Prince of Light is what I’d go with now. It’s been a little while since I rewatched the show all the way through. I’m definitely going to do a video on Utena and Anthy through a classpect lens down the line, though, so keep an eye out for that!
2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the original airing of Revolutionary Girl Utena. exactly 20 years ago today, the series ended with the final episode “Someday, Together, We’ll Shine"
Utena is widely considered one of the best, more influential, most interesting anime series of all time- it’s a little embarrassing to say, but in my opinion it’s one of the most incredible pieces of fiction of all time. it’s definitely important to me, at least. so i wanted to do something for today.
i like to believe, twenty years later, they are still together.
