Have you played part two of Hiveswap yet, if so what classpects do you think Amisia and Cirava are? (My bets for Amisia are either sylph of mind or maid of mind, because of the healing she did to the player’s arm, and I want to say that Cirava is a knight of hope, for reasons that are a bit more of a spoiler, if you haven’t played, but I’m not that great at analysis, so who knows lol.)

Amisia struck me as a Maid, yeah. Interestingly I feel like she’s got more Void coding than Mind at this point–healing you through the holes in her wall, being a “fake”/unreal painter, etc. Her actions to lead to some pretty Mindy- tangents, though, like MSPA Reader briefly trying to meditate/center themselves or going on that rambly thought-stream while bleeding out.

Cirava I’m not certain about, but there’s a lot of the word Change in their playthroughs so I’m inclined to see them as an Heir, or maybe Witch–though the fact that the MSPA Reader benefits from their changes more than they themselves do leans me towards Heir.

Not sure, though. I’ve only had the time to play through the game once, so I’ll probably have more to say after later playthroughs.

What are your opinions on the idea of Ardata being space-bound? I was listening to random music, and it turns out the theme she uses is “Breeding Duties” from the Homestuck bandcamp, obviously referring to frog breeding

I’m putting it down as a solid “maybe” at the minute. The other main guesses I’m hearing are that she’s Mindbound (her iii quirk suggesting one of the Mind signs visually) or Voidbound (by dint of her hidden sign).

I haven’t yet had a run of the game that left me with anything I can point to as linked to one or another Aspect in particular. Class-ways she sorta almost parses as a Witch or maybe a Sylph roleplaying a Witch, but on the Aspect end I’m just not committed to any reading of her yet.

What classpect do you think Diemen is? I’m thinking he’s a Seer because of the hidden eyes and the “Sign of the Visualiser”.

see here for why i currently think he’s a thief, but its worth mentioning i’m not entirely sure if thats roleplay–he didnt exactly choose to have his house blown up, after all. his actual class could be something else,

that said, i didnt pick up on any of the signifiers i usually look for from prophet classes in him. not saying that means he isn’t a seer–i could always be full of shit about everything, or the friendsim might not be super indicative of classpect or what diemen is like in hiveswap proper.

but assuming the friendsim does clue us into the characters’ classpects, and that diemen in the friendsim is basically analogous to diemen in hiveswap, i dont currently see it.

In light of the new FriendSim, do you feel like that we have enough information about Diemen in order to properly give him a class? Because we do know he’s a Hope-Bound.

Don’t know for sure, but he feels an awful lot like a thief:

-He’s off the grid, so there’s some outlaw imagery to him.
-A lot of uses of the word “take” in his text.
-hes lost friends due to stealing hot dogs

-his epiphany involves realizing he’s stealing hotdogs as a coping mechanism, and what he actually wants is something else.

The real treasure he references is, ofc, friendship. And if they end happily, thieves quests always seem to involve realizing that no matter how much they steal, friendship and love were the real treasure they wanted all along.

See: Meenah deciding she doesn’t want the ring of life.
(Vriska) growing closer to Meenah, and then meeting (terezi). Etc.

Seemed p fitting to me that as soon as diemen faced this part of himself, his wish was granted and you find your way to meat heaven. That auryn rule rearing it’s head again.

PS: While hotdogs aren’t Hope-related per se, the dick jokes surrounding them sure are. i love homestuck.  i love diemen

You ve played the friendsim What are your thoughts about Ardata and classpect? Im trying to figure it out but I can’t think of more than that she’s Definitely Not comfortable with the light aspect what do you think?

my current guess is that shes a witch of mind–the familiar being her viewers–but that could be roleplay or, frankly, just me/my friends reading too much into it because her text feels almost designed to be hard to classpect. there’s also some aspects of her personality that vibe with Sylph for me, so that could be her true class? idek.

she mostly seems to lack the keywords and motifs that usually make characters so clear, like diemen for example. Or maybe i’m just worse at picking out those motifs for some classes. can’t really tell.

the spotlight definitely seems to weigh heavily on her, and that could def be the influence of the Light aspect via the blue sign caste. I’m not quite sure there since again, i dont super have a read on her classpect.

but i’m guessing shes a Mind player just judging by the 3 motif and her concern with…i’ll say false appearances? Holding to a persona?

She changes the mspa reader right out the gate, forcing them to agree with her abusive philosophy to please her, and thats basically the choice at the heart of their dynamic throughout. so thats what i’m going off, insofar as i’m willing to speculate.

but to be honest, i’m not even sure these versions of the characters will necessarily line up with the versions in hiveswap. it seems incredibly likely to me that they will, which means i am inclined to consider these versions for class purposes, but ill feel a lot more confident one way or another after we get to know some more trolls this way.

Ardata feels too opaque to really say,
by design, I think.

honestly i was a little shocked for a second about how dark friendsim got but then i just started laughing and couldn’t stop. that was some wonderful homestuck weirdness and i’m looking forward to where else they go with it from here!

yeah pretty much same. maybe the biggest surprise for me is, i wasnt expecting to actually get caught up in the dating sim aspect. but somehow in between the manslaughter and sausage jokes, diemen kinda worked for me, too. swoon!

1/2 I’ve been shouting non-stop that Hiveswap Friendswim is the tonal sequel to Jailbreak we didn’t know we… wanted? Expected? It’s the most aggressively counter-culture thing Andrew Hussie has done in years. Cannot figure out who the game is for. Hiveswap fans? The ones who made a billion posts going googoo over the Troll Call and what precious babies they all were? (Even as I sat on the sidelines muttering ‘hey remember that Trolls are canonically awful as a race’ so VALIDATION)

2/3 So I can’t imagine that the game is for Hiveswap fans – this is about as far from lovable Joey and Xennos as one can get. Is it for the people who loved Jailbreak an only Jailbreak, because I can’t imagine they’re still around. It doesn’t have any references to please the Old Homestucks (the Never Hiveswap crowd). Content wise it seems to reject marketability, so its certainly not to please Viz execs. It’s like Hussie decided to make an hour-long piece of content

3/3 designed solely for Homestuck theorists, in the sense of ‘let’s throw them the craziest curveball imaginable.’ But even then its strangeness is one of tone more than lore or weird plot shit. WHO IS THIS GAME FOR, RD? (I’m not saying I didn’t like it, but nor am I saying I did like it. I laughed a lot, but it also disturbed me. I don’t know how to feel. Help me, RD. Help me understand the Friendsim)

I agree with you that the Friendsim doesn’t seem immediately marketable, so I find it sorta comforting. It feels like something Hussie would do, not something he was assigned to do via corporate agenda, which I wasn’t too worried about anyway but its nice to be reassured.

As for the rest, uh. I dunno, I think it’s pretty indicative of what I was expecting from Hiveswap itself, so I kinda think its just meant for hiveswap fans lol. People like getting to know trolls, and trolls have always been fucked up.

But that’s because Alternia society is fucked up, not because trolls as a race are awful. Personally, I thought Diemen was immensely lovable, and I am fairly goddamn swooned. Not really sure there’s much a Hiveswap fan will take issue with there.

Ardata’s definitely, uh, a vriska. but I’ve always liked Vriska more than not, and Ardata was a really interesting showcase of the pressures highbloods get put under. She ain’t exactly happy with her brutal responsibilities, so theres about as much room to make her sympathetic as there was with Vriska.

Nothing in the friendsim stuck out to me as particularly worse than whats in the comic, it was just delivered in a more jokey and over the top style. The people who are scandalized or shocked by the way trolls are fucked up will get over it, just like they got over how Vriska/Eridan/Gamzee were fucked up.

And hopefully that will be to all our benefits, since as people get more excited about getting to meet more trolls via friendsim, prospects for Homestuck and Hiveswap will grow brighter as well. Personally, I’m quite pleased with the game so far. The tone’s pretty jailbreak, but the characterization and soul are all homestuck.

Hey gang!

First of all, Happy 4/13!! It’s great celebrating everything Homestuck today, but most important is that we get to celebrate it with all you lovely people. ❤

Second, Hiveswap Friendsim is now available! It’s somewhat like a visual novel or a dating simulator, but you’ll be looking for friendship instead of dating or romance. You know … a friendship simulator. Friendsim! This first volume, written by Andrew Hussie, features Ardata and Diemen.

You’ve just crash-landed on Alternia. You meet two trolls. What do you do?
