so zebruh is an absolute shitheel

oh my god, i’m floored and kinda delighted. its been a while since we met a character that frustrating and awful. that said im a bit weirded out that people are making him out to be irredeemable, as usual.

guys. homestuck and hiveswapdont really deal in irredeemable characters, or at least definitely not irredeemable teens (except maybe Caliborn).

zebruh’s shit, absolutely, but he isn’t meaningfully more shit than vriska, equius or eridan at the start of their narratives, and they all received varying levels of redemption in the eyes of homestuck’s narrative.

he’s also showing the same signs of corruption of identity as every other highblood thus far–his Blood Caste’s Aspect getting in the way of or messing with his true Aspect’s insight:

he sees the suffering of lowbloods on some level and obviously cares about it in some way, because he has genuinely convinced himself he wants to help (Doom), but his perception of the actual problem is obfuscated and confused (Void).

when it comes to how his physical actions contribute to the problem, his mind simply Voids it out. If he got past his Void influence and saw the suffering and doom for what it actually is, it stands to reason it would change his perspective. But Alternia is designed to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Zebruh is awful, but he’s also a subject of a system designed to make him that way. The same is true of Ardata. And Amisia. And Trizza. The sins of any one of these characters aren’t really as relevant as their capacity for change and redemption, because the actual enemy is the system that produced them all, and those responsible for putting it into place–LE and Doc Scratch.

I think it’s pretty likely all of these characters will be redeemed in Hiveswap–hell, it may be that one of the core puzzle mechanics involves using our insight into their thoughts to figure out how to get through to them and have them join the rebel camp, in a lot of cases.

thatsnot a hard prediction or anything, it just seems plausible. certainly moreso than thinking that the narrative that gave us Vriska is suddenly interested in providing a lot of one dimensional, irredeemable antagonists.

hey! have you thought about streaming friendsim? I know for sure I’d watch!!!

I have but time when im available to stream is kinda hard to come by for me and i want to make videos on the friendsims, plus i kinda like to chill and take them in at my own pace when i do

that said I did cohost with @casejackal when they streamed the first two friendsim volumes and we had a lot of fun! we ended up reading part of the comic together too lol it was neat. we’re planning to do it again so keep an eye out for that

Hey guys! This time we look at some neat ways Gamzee might have used his Rage powers along the course of his arc, and some examples of what “Rage powers” might actually mean.

Today’s question is: Can you think of other ways Gamzee might’ve used his Rage powers?

im actually not even kidding about this since tagoras influence by the Mind aspect which is largely about controlling how you present yourself to the world, and logical choices, theres likely a societal pressure for him to put thought into appearances

im gonna just need you to talk to me abt a.) tagora and 2.) aspects always, RD, just sayin

but anyway yeah like. I’ve been COMPLETELY sold on the idea of an alternian equivalent to a Sun/Moon sign for trolls revolving around the given aspects for their own sign, and aspects that influence them via their caste.

Tagora is so fucking obviously Space/Mind, aside from a pretty obvious societal pressure on him as a midblood to be what Teals are supposed to be (and to not look like a lowblood, since midbloods are kind of neither high or low to the low or high), he’s undoubtedly obsessed with appearances and creating appearances. He’s got an ostentatious fucking mirror and bathroom for fucks sake, which is the loudest tell for that than anything, and while he’s a real smooth talker when he’s doing his bit, when something unexpected crops up it throws him off significantly (mildly when he sees youre an alien, majorly when Galekh shows up unannounced) which is suggestive of him throwing on a whole facade. like anyone is surprised.

there’s also something to be said about him being creative, too, crafting up a scam pretty fucking on the spot but also in creating a persona he can step into that he probably isn’t wholly naturally.

im in fucking LOVE with him

I think it’s quite telling-from how you’re describing him, anyway-that the way tagora thinks about keeping up appearances is focused on very traditionally space linked things–visual arts/fashion, and decorating or designing ones environment, which all space players seem to do a lot.

I hope you realize this means tagoras true calling in life is probably something like. Interior decor or something. Lmao

Edit; also hearing that was validating as fuck, thank u

What do you think Tagora’s Classpect is? I was thinking he could be a Thief because he takes your money through “vaguely worded yet stringently binding documents,” but he could also be a knight, since he offers you his “services,” and, as angel-of-double-death says, he doesn’t seem to enjoy talking, so his charisma could be seen as a facade, which Knights seem to be prone to. He might be connected to both through Class Roleplay, though.

i honestly havent been able to play it yet, but i saw at least one “break” or “destroy” reference in a screenshot and he seems based on like, your Light Yagami (Death Note) and Lelouch (Code Geass) types in anime, who tend to be Royal/Destruction classes. So I’m inclined to think Prince or Bard.

Again though, pure guess. My instinct is to consider the “service” motif Knight roleplay too–Terezi was one of Homestuck’s most intense roleplayers in her emulation of Mindfang, after all.

But I haven’t seen a teal blood seem to roleplay much outside Terezi! Tagora’s the most substantial one we’ve seen directly yet short of Terezi herself, as cool as Latula’s two versions are.  Since I’m not really sure how the class system on alternia is delegated to the different blood castes, I’m not entirely sure thats whats going on.

More to come when I actually get to play it but I’m busy getting this last gamzee video done. Should be switching focus to Hiveswap for a while after that, though.

Should be fun 🙂

i just saw a really bad negative review of friendsim on steam and it made me mad so

i thought id mention one of the most helpful things we can prob do for friendsim rn is just leave it positive reviews to boost the score and reception if we like it.

positive attention and press is everything for wp right now–the more the friendsims succeed, the more money and resources wp has, the sooner hiveswap act 2 can happen, the sooner wp’s excellent laid-off staff can be hired back

i really think this fandom needs to remember that homestuck‘s ridiculous hype was generated entirely by word of mouth. homestucks were the ones who funded and created undertale, which reached similar levels of hype again through word of mouth.

this community has and continues to demonstrate its own power–we just need to keep in mind that we have it. if you want wp to be successful and the artists we love to be re-employed and all that, the course of action to take is simple:

just talk about the stuff you love about the work this fandom is built around. help other people find it and love it, too. that’s whats going to make the difference in the futures of homestuck and hiveswap.

leave a review on the friendsim volumes if you have the time and you enjoyed them. thats a small first step we can take, that even i hadn’t thought of for some reason.

Anyway, I just wanted to say. Hope this moves you to do or say anything positive for hiveswap that you might not have done otherwise, even if its just reblogging this to spread the thought around. thats really all i can possibly ask for.
