Hey guys! Here’s the next episode of Homestuck Explained.

In this episode, we take a look at the Server Player.

We’ll talk about the way players typically enter Sburb, what Server players do mechanically, and what Sburb’s mechanical setup says about both Sburb’s priorities as a game and Homestuck’s underlying philosophy.

Are you interested in Hiveswap but find Homestuck hard to get into? @revolutionaryduelist has you covered with the Homestuck Explained series.

baiselong

finished watching this, still confused XD

I mean I recommend watching the rest of the series, or you could ask for clarification from @revolutionaryduelist. I don’t think there’s an easy way of making Homestuck instantly comprehensible.

Understanding Homestuck isn’t about being not confused, it’s about being increasingly confused in such a way that the questions the confusion makes you ask eventually lead to Enlightenment and then you’re the next Buddha or whatever.

That was a joke. Mostly. Forreal though if you have any questions my ask box is always open and I’m eager to help out :B And yes further videos will likely help out more–that first one is an introduction to the KIND of story homestuck is but that makes it mostly more abstract and maybe harder to understand concretely.

Alright so I’ve found something in your video about Kernelsprites. You mention that only the first prototyping affects the hatched kernel(enemies and etc). But I disagree. Any prototyping occurring BEFORE entering the medium(ie: before the kernel hatches) will affect the game. You see this when the kernel hatches after John enters and gives its information to the towers on Derse and Prospit. But Rose’s sprite was prototyped twice before her entry – and both prototypings affected enemies.

Whoops, yeah I must’ve worded that poorly there. I’ll slip an annotation in clearing up that discrepancy–thank you for letting me know!

would there be any chance of you putting subtitles on your homestuck videos?

Yes. In fact, one helpful fan in particular has been helping out by providing closed captioning for the videos in French! He’s credited in the videos, too.

I have the transcripts in the form of the scripts for the posts themselves, so it’s really just a matter of time as to when I’ll put english subtitles up, at least. I know I’d like to get spanish subtitles too and I can do that eventually. The only reason it isn’t already happening is because all of my energy is currently going to putting out more analysis–whether that’s through videos or through the posts I’ve been placing here and on Medium.
