tl;dr, we can consider the Beta video the start of Homestuck Explained: Season Two, since it marks the next section of videos. I’ve been catching up on Hiveswap stuff in the meantime and there’s some other projects I want to tackle before we get back to Homestuck: Explained, but we’ll get there. I have a few surprises in store for then, so I hope you look forward to it 🙂
the tl;dr is that I’m perfectly aware of the interpretation of Knight/Page as the Active/Passive “Exploit” pair. I held the view for years, since I was introduced to classpect theory by BKEW. You’re not dealing with someone who’s oblivious– you’re dealing with a different interpretation of these Classes.
I don’t even use the verb “Exploit” but the verb “Serve”, which I think has considerably more support in canon. I don’t agree with that characterization of Pages at all, either. I’ve written a tooon on Knights and Pages you can find on my Medium page or by looking through my blog if you want, so I’m not gonna rehash the debate here.
Canon or Hussie’s eventual Class test will presumably provide us incontrovertible evidence for which view (if either) is correct eventually. Until then it’s just fun stuff to talk about and consider.
I wanted to talk about at least some of the Friendsim trolls, so for now here’s a look at my favorites: Folykl and Kuprum. I’m really only hazarding guesses as to what their Classes might be, but this feels like a good match considering what we see in Homestuck.

TBH i have actually thought about this before, like if fraymotifs could be used outside of combat, could a seer’s powers combined with heart or blood get you something like that? probably not, since there’s no indication that the seer of blood (kankri) could literally see the connections between people, but it’s a fun idea. (dirk voice: rose, did you know that your soul is a writhing mass of orange tentacles? pretty dope.)
alternatively, they could alchemize a camera that lets you photograph people’s souls, or make a horrible soul portrait, sort of like how dave alchemized a camera that turns everything into sbahj

anyway read my fic pretty please this chapter took like 2 hours to put together + 2 bonus hours of trying to get around ao3s code parser to make on page anchor tags work (turns out…. the answer was in… the tutorial on their website… i should read the manual before building)

When Aranea starts copying Mindfang, she acts like a Thief, too. The classes are basically just cultural ideals any individual can choose to live up to, and it’s implied that the older you get/the more you know yourself, the easier it is to blur roles or act out the roles you perform in a more adult, premeditated way.
Mindfang is a Sylph–we only know her through the writing she produces, shining light on herself and Alternia to Vriska’s (complicated) benefit. Vriska is inclined to elevate Mindfang in all the ways she perceives Mindfang as being unlike herself. Aranea’s inclined to do the same thing.
Running away from yourself is generally a bad idea, especially if its because you don’t like yourself and are trying to be someone else. That’s the problem both Aranea and Vriska run into with imitating Mindfang, and it suggests that roleplay has more to do with how an individual relates to the role model in their heads than anything particularly to do with the role model themselves.
That make any sense?
