I think the best argument for jakes feelings for dirk is brain ghost dirk because after everything theyve been through with their breakup and everything else about brain ghost dirk being fairly accurate to jakes personal fears and other things about whats currently going on with dirk he calls jake his boyfriend which is essentially what jake still wants after everything it shows that thought their relationship was messy they have a possible future and i love that

Yep, pretty much. People don’t seem to pick up on it but, like, yes Jake is abused! Jake is abused by Hal (who Brain Ghost Dirk reflects much more than he reflects Dirk himself as Jake…literally says), by Jane, by Aranea…

He just isn’t abused by DIRK, and when the chips come down Dirk is literally presented as Jake’s ANSWER to all this abuse. Dirk makes Jake feel safe, ergo, when Dirk is around Jake doesn’t feel as threated, which is why them being together is directly correlated with Jake comfortably doing sexy ads and shit on Earth C (at the age of 19 at the earliest which some people also seem to have missed.)

Homestuck DID deal with Jake’s abuse, it just dealt with it in a way that didn’t fit people’s preconceived narrative. You can argue about the nature of the execution (I know a lot of my friends would’ve wanted that laid out with more dialogue, and I can’t help but agree at times) but the symbol language is pretty clear: Jake’s discomfort is a problem for him when he can’t rely on Dirk to fix it. Jake does not consider Dirk one of his aggressors. Jake loves his boyfriend who he wants to call him his boyfriend. 

yo, something jake-related i found: a gnostic account describing how angels born of Sophia and Dynamis (wisdom and power?) created a 1st heaven, whose angels then created a 2nd, whose angels then created a 3rd, and so on until the angels of the 365th heaven created the visible world. abraxas is called ruler (Archon) of all 365 heavens, and presumably therefore over all of their angels. wouldn’t that make him what homestuck would call “Lord of Angels”?

1) God I need to do more research into Gnostic stuff, the more I do the better it gets

2) This ties Jake’s hope powers into angels a lot harder which is fascinating and possibly explains why angels permeate Hope players so often beyond the general believing in them stuff

Hey! I love love love what you write about Dirk, it really helps with finding his voice and understanding his character, and I’m glad someone’s doing the Good Work regarding Dirkjake. Do you think you could talk about Dirk and Bro sometime, and why they’re so different? You’re definitely one of the best HS analysts out there, and I’d love to read your thoughts on that.

This is a really nice message! I sort of already did write about this in Love, Faith and Fantasy–I think Dirk is fundamentally different because he loves his friends, defines himself by and strives to live up to Dave’s image, and is confronted with his own manipulative potential through the AR and is kind of terrified of becoming like that. If you haven’t read that one I don’t blame you cause it’s too fucking long and I’m currently in the process of editing and reuploading it.

I might write about Dirk more? But I’ve written about Dirk and Jake specifically a frankly overwhelming amount already, and I’d like to focus on fleshing out the roster of characters I’m writing about since my goal is really to talk about the entire story–Dirk and Jake are just a particular passion point for me. Probably the soonest I’ll revisit the subject is if Hiveswap brings any new information about Grandpa or Bro to light, which is something I’m kind of expecting frankly. 

I’m sorry all this shit is happening. You should be able to have a calm, mature discussion with people and not have to deal with their garbage. I know I’m just a dumb blog but I hope that you have a nice day enjoying the things you like to do and that your actually meaningful conversations are productive.

Eh, I misworded a couple things and teens will be teens and be angry about stuff they’re angry about. Don’t let yourself feel dispirited about it, because I don’t.
I think most people on this website (and most of the people I came into conflict with) are fundamentally good. That’s why I’m here talking about this stuff–because I believe people will listen, and people like you are listening! Which is encouraging considering I just got started.

A bit about me: My best irl friend is a Seer of Doom who is pretty critical when he needs to be and who relies on me a lot! One of my best and oldest best friends is either another Doom player or (current theory) a Prince of Life. He’s not a homestuck, or a furry, and he’s had to deal with a lot more of my exhausting rambles than anyone on this website.

The point being: Nobody can hate my furry shit as much as @alotofmomos hates my homestuck shit, and he’s pretty much the best anyway. The times when stuff like this could hurt my feelings are far, far behind me, and the nice messages I’ve gotten from peeps like you just make me feel lucky if anything. 

Anyway, back to writing about Jade. Thanks to all of you for sticking through me clogging up your dashes with this boring stuff, and for reaching out too–it was super kind of you.
