A. CLAIRE…A CLONE? Joey…the Heir of Life!?

https://www.patreon.com/optimisticDuelist

This time we go over some of my wilder thoughts on the potential identity of A. Claire, and explore the only other title for Joey that seems like a solid possibility to me, based on Act 1.

But you know, that’s just a theory. A Hiveswap theory. :o)

Today’s questions are: Do you think Joey’s an Heir of Life, or a Maid of Light? Think there’s anything to this stuff with A. Claire? Think I’ve finally lost it completely? Lemme know :3

A special shout out has to go out to the tracks I used from the NEW HOMESTUCK-THEMED ALBUM, p[S], by Casual Sunday. Casual Sunday is a new musical group made up of former Homestuck music team veterans, and they’ve really outdone themselves with this album, so I encourage showing them some support!

A. CLAIRE…A CLONE? Joey…the Heir of Life!?

Okay so i finally started playing hiveswap (i know W a y too late) and since all the trolls in the friendsim have two aspects, one connected to their bloodcaste and one Real one, do you think it’s more likely that Joey is actually a light player who is influenced by Nana Egbert or a life player who is influenced by A. Claire (since she made all the star paintings?) it’s a bit vague since the flashlight is her old weapon (not current) and her love for animals makes her unhappy because of Pa

She’s definitely influenced by A. Claire (she outright says she wants to be just like her tons of times, after all), but hilariously enough that doesn’t actually help me figure out whether she’s getting Life or Light influence from her at the moment, for Reasons.

Hiveswap ends w/ Joey in earth c because she DESERVES to have cool uncle Dirk show her Revue Starlight

This show was made for Joey Claire to cosplay and I’ll hear nothing to the contrary. It’s canon now. Thanks bye

Joey Claire is SO good, you guys. Joey’s a stellar depiction of growing up in the 90’s, and she’s taken a very special and personal place in my heart. I really hope this video helps draw people in to her story.

This is a look at Joey’s arc in Act 1, using only one guess at her potential Hero Title: Maid of Light. Our lack of canon confirmation of Joey’s actual Aspect or Class combined with my personal thoughts on Roleplay mean that this is really just a guess at her title, even moreso than the Xefros or Dammek videos.

I can think of one other potential Classpect for Joey based on the evidence we’ve seen, but this one contextualizes her struggles in Act 1 best in my opinion, so I wanted to share it here. Whenever new information comes out,  I’ll probably release a follow-up video, especially if it turns out this interpretation doesn’t tell the full story.

Todays’ question is: Did Joey’s story make you feel like you understand what it might’ve been like to grow up as a nerdy girl in the 90’s a little better? Did it mean something to you?

same hiveswap anon ive been going through your hiveswap tag and reading your theories and I absolutely LOVE your A. Clair = Anna = Jane clone theory (there’s even a pony pals poster in Joey’s room!!!) but I wondered why you see her as a life player and not as a light one? Is it only because she is (probably (hopefully)) Jane’s clone? Or are there other textual reasons I’m missing?

I think it could go either way, which is partly why I can’t tell what JOEY’s true classpect is, and thus why I haven’t felt confident making a Joey video yet. I am going to have to say fuck it and bite the bullet soon because Joey deserves better from me, honestly.

If A. Claire is a Jane well into her prime and roleplaying a Light player rather than Life, that could maybe explain her early death from a classpect perspective, and it would suggest Joey might be roleplaying LIGHT as a result of A. Claire’s influence, when she’s actually naturally a Life player like her mom.

This would be delightfully ironic, and if true I’d wager Joey is actually an Heir of Life by nature, since it would account for how she feels she can’t be assertive all the time.

It would also make sense if her rise to stardom along with Xefros is orchestrated by Doc Scratch, who’s always been fond of manipulating Light players, and her arc eventually involves moving a bit further away from her desire for stardom/the spotlight and towards simply enjoying spending time with her friends and pets.

This makes a degree of sense, especially since her Life imagery is displayed pretty much entirely through the variety of pets she’s accruing–Byers, Slothdad, Deercat–and pets are so far a more consistent source of joy to her than  her dreams of stardom. But then, part of Joey’s light imagery also has to do with imagination and stuff like video games, so its not all bad or anything!

Still, if she were an Heir of Life, she’d be a mix of John and Jane’s title, which would be quite fitting, I think. Hence why I just don’t know right now! I think it may be a mystery we’re meant to riddle out as the Acts continue, but maybe Act 2 will contrive to give her a True Sign and thus give us the answer.

Someone made a post about how Joey and Jude may not actually die when sburb happens. Was it you? (And if so, can you please link that post?)

seems likely other people have talked about it besides me, but i have certainly done a video or two on that subject since I literally don’t think theres any chance they’ll actually die permanently at all:

This is on how I think the likeliest scenario is that Hiveswap’s heroes will escape to Earth C in the end, probably bringing most or all of these doomed trolls with them.

This one is on why I think its likely that Pa/Grandpa set things up to save Joey and Jude, or enable them to do…something? that would “Save the world”.

Simply put, I think the idea of Hiveswap having a tragic ending is antithetical to Homestuck and Hiveswap’s themes, and allowing them such a fate runs completely counter to Grandpa’s character. It’s easy to get lose it in the weeds because of what a shitty dad he is, but we’re still dealing with a genuine Hero, here, even if he’s a tragic one.

I know you’ve speculated on the Hiveswap kids classpects previously but I’d like to ask you this: What classpects would you give the four kids if you stick to the theory that their classpects are composed from the unused classes/aspects between the Betas and Alphas? Mage, Thief, Sylph and Bard and Blood, Mind, Doom and Rage respectively. (Also can you ignore the class-gender lock for this ask if you don’t do so already as it shoehorns Sylph onto Joey otherwise.) P.S. Love your theory work.

The trouble with this ask is that it completely goes against my methodology.
I build my guesses for classpects very directly from what I believe are deliberate cues built into the text-Archetype associations, key verb usage, etc. I’m speculating, sure, but I’m not doing so based on broad themes.

Xefros and Dammek are explicitly Rage and Blood respectively, we know this. That leaves Doom and Mind for Jude and Joey. It seems to me Jude has strong Doom imagery, which could be roleplay, so he might in truth be a Mind player.
But Joey’s imagery is split between Light and Life, so there’s no Doom or Mind for me to work with there atm.

It’s always possible the stuff I’m picking up on is wrong, or a red herring. But as my view of the text stands right now, I just don’t see how it breaks down this way. And I don’t particularly feel its necessary, given that we’re getting classpects with every single troll call troll.

In response to your post about Xefros and rping: It’s been a while since I played Hiveswap, but when I was going through it, he seemed interested in being a butler and learning all he could about it, only because that was what was expected of him. He was/is fully accepting of one day having to serve others, whether or not he likes it, while his true interest seems to be in Arena Stickball. He also seemed to have an interest in music, but that may have been Dammek’s influence.

“Resigned to the fact that there’s no hope and all thats left in his life is exploitative labor until death” is not the same as “genuinely interested”.

He’s trying to learn about being a butler because the alternative is being murdered even faster. There is no consent from Xefros in this situation, he’s merely complying with that Alternia demands of him on pain of death. It matters that Xefros doesn’t like it, and it matters that not wanting to do it but being forced to leaves him feeling drained and miserable.

That’s why I view the role of the Knight-a mechanical metaphor for his role as a Butler-as a corrupting influence that will likely be discarded as Xefros finds his true self. I 100% guarantee you there’s no scenario where Hiveswap will suggest that Xefros lying down and embracing the role of Alternian butler is a good thing.

The music link was initially Dammek’s idea, yes, but in contrast to the Butler motif it is actually possible for Xefros to choose to embrace it in a healthier way, now that he’s free. So it might turn out to be an interest he develops on his own terms together with Joey–the wish granting implications of the cherub portal suggest that performance is in Joey’s future, after all.
