nuclearmentality replied to your post “Isn’t Sollux’s blindness a consequence of Eridan blasting him with the…”

not sure if you can really say that sollux got voidrot
voidrot seems like it drains all kinds of energy, including psychic energy, ultimately killing the troll(s) infected with it
+ when Sollux died, i think it was from overexerting himself?

I didn’t say Sollux got voidrot. I said that whatever condition Sollux did have had some stark similarities with Voidrot, enough so that odds are good we can learn about one from the other.

We don’t know if what Sollux has is voidrot, and we also don’t know if voidrot is a disease that one contracts or if it’s simply what happens to psiionics when they overexert themselves. We don’t know how voidrot progresses! If Kuprum got voidrot, would he be more like Sollux or like Folykl at the onset? Etc.

What we do know is both conditions left the victim with blindness, and left them d00med. Given how close Doom and Void are on the aspect wheel, and that voidrot seems to be exclusive to goldbloods–who I already believe to be Doom coded biologically–these are worthwhile similarities to keep in mind.

That’s all I’m saying.

I-It’s Not Like I Want To Understand Your…

I personally feel like OP may have ignored significant sections of Karkat’s character development when writing this post (for instance, his fears of being outed as a mutantblood, and other things which fuel/demonstrate his intense insecurities).

After reading the addendum, I think I understand why they did it, but I still don’t think I agree with it fully. 😛

I’m not entirely sure I follow. Like I know she didnt talk about those parts, but this look at Karkat’s character was pretty specific in scope, and nothing she said directly contradicted that aspect of Karkat’s character.

Not every metapost has to address every single element of a characters story, imo? My own post probably falls short on that front too, cause i didnt really talk about Karkat’s fears of being exposed either. So like you’re right, im just not sure where you feel it weakened the argument.

Based on the extended zodiac website, the “circle”…

I guess I just assumed that, when you showed all the aspects on-screen in a circle near the end of your video, there was some additional meaning there aside from “opposite aspects are on opposite sides”…

Oh! Nah until the Zodiac I’d never committed to any particular arrangement of the wheel–didn’t feel any one setup had enough canonical backup for me to commit. Now I do ofc, since the wheel provided one with some interesting depth to dig into!

Based on the extended zodiac website, the “circle” of aspects – i.e. which aspects are more thematically similar – seems to differ significantly from its counterpart in your video on the subject. Any thoughts?

Honestly, I’m not super sure what you’re referring to. Are you referring to which Aspects are complementary/paired? Because if so, the pairs are the exact same, nothing much changed about my views there.

The Zodiac had some interesting focuses for each Aspect that led me to change some terms associated with them around, for Rage and Hope in particular. And it seems to imply that the Aspects *next* to an Aspect are also important, along with the one across/complementary from it, which is really interesting but the narrative implications of which I haven’t really felt like I understand yet.

One of those things I’m hoping to understand better through Hiveswap.
Does this answer your question at all?

nuclearmentality replied to your post “If AO3 is unsafe for you, I will build you an archive of your own.”

somehow this seems a bit opposite the views espoused by your earlier reblog re: pedo fics…

idk tho : P

My logic is that if antis/people who Seriously Cannot Deal with dark fic’s mere existence on their platform, even tagged, instead had their own platform to use designed for their needs and preferences, they could leave AO3 the hell alone for the people who do need to use it, or want to–which frankly is probably gonna be the majority of fandom.

I’m interested in enabling all people to coexist in the state most comfortable and humane for everyone. If those who feel unsafe in on AO3 can find a different enviroment that makes them happy and means we can all coexist in peace, I’m all for it, as long as AO3 proper still exists.

The protection of AO3 as a platform is all I care about here. I don’t think we’re going to convince antis not to care about the stuff they care about, so I’m trying out the meager hope that possibly having their own community to control their way will enable them to leave the rest of us alone already.

nuclearmentality replied to your post “You reblogged a post that said “the only harm [non-photographic child…”

of course, it’s important to not discount the impact of propoganda-type works on the course of history

however, more often than not they are more accurately treated as symptoms than as causes

To be clear, yes, that’s definitely true. My shock wasn’t at the idea that BOTN was impactful, it factually was. But trying to pin the stubborn and long-lasting horror of white supremacy, an ideology that’s defined the world for like…centuries, on a single movie? It’s myopic to the point of being dangerously nonsensical.

That was my point here.
