Why are things never simple, or never as simple as they seem?

In general? Because life is complicated. There’s a lot to it. That’s why it’s life!

In Homestuck, I suspect because Hussie is trying to tell a story about the meaning of life and the nature of existence. And hes just that kind of writer, I guess.

Also, I think it’s more fun this way. But that’s just me.
