A. Claire’s Identity….REVEALED???

No. Well, probably not. But I think I have a pretty decent guess?

My Jude post is going to take a little while longer, and once I put these pieces together it didn’t take much to make things fall into place, and turned out to be pretty quick to put together.

I don’t usually do outright speculation, I tend to dislike doing so. But this feels solid enough that I’m willing to at least mention it, and more than that its simply interesting to think about, so while we wait for Hiveswap: Act 2, I figure we may as well mull over this possibility.

So, humor me.

A. Claire is a pretty mysterious figure. She seems to come out of nowhere to shake up Homestuck’s core cast, and she seems to know more about the game than we ever confirmed for any other Guardian, barring Pa himself.
Why does she seem so connected to the Cherub Key? How on earth did she paint a mural of the green sun??? What’s her deal!

There’s no precedent for a character quite like the mysterious actress, and seemingly no background profile that would explain how she knows what she knows. Except, of course, for the obvious one. The one we’ve overlooked.

Yep, I’m arguing A. Claire is Jane. Or, well, A JANE, anyway. I always thought the two Nannas thing was a little odd, but really, one than one lifetime spent on the same mortal plane makes perfect sense as part of the potential power of a Life player–particularly a creator of Life who tends to benefit themselves.

image

But hear me out on the context. If we regard A. Claire as another Jane, then suddenly this story Nanna tells us–relayed to her as a fairy tale by the Condesce–is completely true. And the Condesce is a Thief of Life, with an established interest in genetic manipulation.

It’s at least possible she would already have access to cloning technology with which she could have cloned Nanna. Stolen her life, so to speak. And she would have had an interest in doing so, because how better to shape her ideal Heiress?

A Jane who grows up under the Batterwitch’s brutal tutelage could readily be expected to know secrets about Cherubs, who the Witch researched. Suddenly, A. Claire’s painting of the green mural,  her knowledge of Cherubs and connection to Cherub technology–perhaps even her and Pa’s posession of the Cherub machine would make sense, either through the Condesce’s secrets or possibly Jane’s memories, as with Pa.

In fact, that may well be the most likely way they got the Cherub Machine, and the Key that served as Joey’s heirloom. This Jane would, after all, be the Batterwitch’s ideal Heiress. The Cherub Machine could well be part of the inheritance she and Pa received.

But this isn’t Jane, right? This character is named A. Claire. And with this context, we suddenly have true grounds for the name Anna

Anna–the name that Dirk said sounded almost right for Jane in another universe, in another life (and in the same page where he correctly intuited the way the Beta version of Jake got his last name)–means “beautiful” or “graceful”. Both of those names are good fits for A.Claire, but most interesting to us is “Favor”, possibly as in favored child.

Just as Anna Claire would be the favored version of Jane, from the Condesce’s perspective. Meaning the fairy tale she related to Nanna was simply literal fact; a retelling of the setup she already orchestrated. And the kids she was destined to have with Jake, those who would save the world, are not John and Jade (sburb didn’t do that anyway), but Joey and Jude.

Anna and Jake, then, are bound together through their shared experiences in another life, their mutual connection to the Game’s secrets. And, of course, their relationships with Roxy–who they take in as a babysitter. As well as…

Dirk, who it seems they had plans to take in as well–Rocking horse and everything. Makes you wonder what happened to Bro, and what he’s doing. How did he avoid being found? Or was he found, but too influenced by Cal to indulge something like horses? Idk, this is clearly overthinking.

But I’m intrigued to see if we ever find out.

As for Anna Claire, I’m feeling pretty confident about this and think it’d be cool. But I’m obviously not married to the idea just yet–I’d like to learn more about A. Claire first. I just wanted to get people talking about the possibility for now.
Anyone compelled by this reading?

so, let me tell you- the moment i started reading your force and flow esseys things started clicking into place for me. i, for one, wasnt a big fan of the widely accepted active-passive scale, and seeing it reworked into a literal scale was what really sparked the ol grey matter! same with the page-knight swap and the serve verb. you compile very well! anyhow, i wanted to ask a question. i know the “destroy” and “steal” sets are already defined- but are there any unifying myths for them you see?

Sort of, loosely, but nothing concrete enough that I feel comfortable presenting it. Thieves and Rogues SEEM to both be linked to the idea of a Pirate or Piracy–The serkets are obvious, but Roxy makes a couple references to internet piracy. As for Prince/Bard…I honestly got nothing. They’re maybe all loosely linked to puppets? They’re all called assholes? Maybe they’re loosely linked to royalty by way of Hussie’s prior adventure, Bard Quest?

I entertain a lot of wild ideas when I’m looking for a new angle on the story, but I don’t actually argue the points unless I have pretty strong evidence drawn directly from the comic–and preferably more than one example for something like this. I was originally not going to present Witch/Heir as ‘Magicians’ early in writing that series for example. I remember being frustrated because according to the trend I was detecting there should have been textual references to magicians or wizardry in the text for Heirs (Witches being the more explicit and literal reference to the myth, which is a running theme as well. A Knight is a straightfoward warrior, a Sylph is a kind of Fairy, a Seer is commonly understood as a Prophet, etc.)

but I couldn’t seem to find them, to the point that I gave up on including that section entirely! Aaaand then I came across the references to WV as a familiar and then found that post by the person who just OUTLINED John as a wizard for me. But my point is I put these points through a lot of scrutiny before I decide to present them, so while I have some loose ideas, my current opinion is that since the Steal and Destroy sets were freebies from the canon, they don’t have unifying myths as such.

Unless, of course, I or someone finds compelling evidence to the contrary in the comic. Which is a possibility I can’t discard–again, it’s exactly what happened for Heirs.

PS: oh by the way thanks a lot! I’m glad you got something out of them 🙂

HIVESWAP CLASSPECT THEORYPOST

thricequeen:

homestuck is known for its symmetry

so it wouldn’t be weird if

Joey – LIGHT PLAYER (active creator class i.e. MAID)

credit to sweet and precious @revolutionaryduelist

  • her symbol is a star
  • flashlight strifekind
  • can read Alternian
  • is a performance artist
  • heals stuff (creator class confirmed)

Xefros – TIME PLAYER (passive exploiter class i.e. PAGE)

also credit to the wonderful, dear, sweet @revolutionaryduelist

  • likes rapping
  • has a lusus known for being slow
  • time flavor text
  • all rustblood characters in homestuck are time players
  • gets pushed around
  • has an idol

Jude – SPACE PLAYER (passive relocator class i.e. ROGUE)

  • has a frickin space alien on his shirt
  • may or may not have memorized star charts
  • we don’t know much about him yet
  • selfless like all canon rogues are (sacrificed his pigeons for Joey)
  • literally relocated the marbles (good job btw)

Dammek – BREATH PLAYER (active destroyer class i.e. PRINCE)

  • controls Xefros, destroying his dreams to be anything that’s not a butler
  • really, Xef can’t go anywhere as long as he’s making him butler
  • he’s leading a rebellion, so he has big dreams and motivation
  • all canon bronzeblood trolls are breath players
  • again, we don’t know much about him
  • is an asshole like all canon princes

They could have the Aspects of the Beta kids but the Classes of the Alpha kids.

But what would it mean? What does this symbolize?

note: all classpect speculations for Jude and Dammek are vague and purely speculations. classpect posts for Xef and Joey can be found at @revolutionaryduelist‘s blog.

Ooooh this is the one concept that seems promising enough that I am pretty swayed to believe it. I have a different reading of Jude so far (writing a post about it because i haven’t been able to video edit yet actually) but I would be pretty dang happy if this turned out to be correct.

I’m gonna nitpick a little in that I don’t think Pages are Passive and don’t subscribe to the “Exploit” verb, and also I have to stick up for my boy Dirk who is not an asshole (any more than the other alphas, anyway) and catches too much flak for the stuff AR does.

But that’s just a matter of avoiding inconsistency in my own opinions so I don’t confuse people more than I already tend to. Love this post! 🙂

PS: Thanks for the mention!

The NDAA is a “must-pass” bill that gets reauthorized every year. This year, $60 million of the $700 billion total went to nuclear R&D. Warren, to her credit, added amendments designed to make the DOD more transparent in how it will use the money and the rationale behind it, but since Republicans control everything, they set the overall agenda. However, the NDAA hasn’t gone through the final appropriations process yet, and in past years Democrats have used their votes to leverage equivalent amounts of money into domestic programs, so it’s in their best interest to play along with this first phase so they can exploit the later phases for non-military spending.

Edit: the infrastructure of our current nuclear arsenal is dangerously out of date, more money into the DOE to make sure warheads don’t leak through shitty 20-year-old casing should be bipartisan.

Edit 2: I found the link in the first tweet and it explains literally all of this, read the fucking articles people.

STOP DEMONIZING DEMOCRATIC WOMEN WHO ARE DOING THEIR BEST TO NEGOTIATE WORKABLE SOLUTIONS TO HORRIBLE REPUBLICAN PROBLEMS

Since I seem to be getting some new readers (Welcome! Glad to have you.), here’s a cool & new song I’ve been listening to. Seeming is really, really good. This stuff is like peak 2017 hellworld #relatable only it, like, gives me hope? And it feels really resonant to Homestuck, I’d like, love to do a lyricstuck on Homestuck’s antagonists set to this.

To the gunmen who guard against all of the starving:
God will bury you. Nature will bury you.
To the screams on the radios, where words turn to weapons:
God will bury you. Nature will bury you.
To the terrified rich man:
God will bury you.
To the killers of animals:
Nature will bury you.

God will bury you. Nature will bury you.
Time will bury your bones, unseen.
Total and absolute.
Infinite amplitude.
‘Til all the black is ripe and green.

And I’m not angry, I’m not sad.
I’m just stating the fact.
I’m not angry, I’m not sad,
I’m just stating the fact.
I’m not angry, I’m not sad!
I’m just stating the fact that:
God will bury you. Nature will bury you.
